About This Wine
The
full story. Two Shepherds is the project of William Allen, a Sonoma-based winemaker who has spent years championing Rhône and Italian varieties — Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, Mourvèdre — alongside unusual techniques including co-ferments with cider apples. The Skin Fermented Pinot Gris (made in the Italian Ramato tradition) is one of his most celebrated bottlings. Fermented on the skins for approximately 5 days with native yeasts in neutral French barrels, which amplifies fruitiness while keeping structure elegant. Aged 6+ months in neutral oak. The grape source shifts slightly vintage to vintage between Sonoma Valley and Russian River Valley sites. Unfined, unfiltered. Not quite a rosé, not quite an orange wine — it occupies the most delicious middle ground.
