About This Wine
The
full story. This Pinot Gris from the Pear Ridge Vineyard on Underwood Mountain is organically farmed at 1300 feet, from a particularly windy vineyard. All that wind makes for thick skins. The anthocyanins and other compounds that give wine the color, aromatics and flavor reside in the skins and give this wine a much darker color and richer flavour than expected from a Pinot Gris rouge. Picked in late October of 2021, this wine was divided into two separate fermentations, one was on the skins for 3 weeks, the other for 3 months. It is borderline red, and we love the beautiful color of this wine that reminds us of the bright and savory wiens from the Jura region in the French Alps. Raspberry, bright and herbal, with bright cherry and cranberry lending way to a savory finish of orange pekoe tea.
