About This Wine
The
full story.Iruai (pronounced 'ear-oo-eye') is the project of Chad and Michelle Westbrook Hinds, based in Etna, CA in Siskiyou County — the California Alps. Chad started the project in 2013 in Berkeley as Methode Sauvage before settling in Michelle's hometown of Etna, high in the Scott Valley at 3,500 feet elevation in the shadow of Mt. Shasta. Inspired by the wines of the Jura and Savoie, Chad works with alpine varieties rarely found in California — Savagnin, Savagnin Rose Musqué, Grüner Veltliner, Chenin Blanc. The Shasta Cascade White is a blend of 30% Savagnin, 20% Chardonnay, 20% Chenin Blanc, 20% Savagnin Rose Musqué, and 10% Grüner Veltliner from high-elevation organically farmed sites across the Trinity Alps of Northern California and Oregon's Siskiyou Wilderness. Native yeasts, no fining, no filtration, no added sulfur. A wine from places most people have never heard of, tasting like no California wine you've ever had.
