Icare Riesling

Josmeyer has farmed in Wintzenheim at the foot of the Vosges since 1854, and the Icare is among their most celebrated cuvées — named for the mythological figure who flew closest to the sun, a nod to the wine’s origins on the sun-drenched Hengst Grand Cru slope. Made from old-vine Riesling grown on marl and limestone soils with a south-southeast exposure, it is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in large neutral oak foudres for twelve months before bottling. The result is a dry, structured Alsace Riesling of real precision: citrus zest, white peach, and green apple on the nose, with a palate that is simultaneously rich and taut, underpinned by stony minerality and vibrant acidity that promises a decade or more of development. One of Alsace’s benchmark expressions of the variety.
